Tapping into the broad and rapidly evolving social marketing space, OpenAI has unveiled a Canva plugin for its popular chatbot, ChatGPT. This strategic move aims to make the process of creating visuals such as logos, banners, and more, even more simple for businesses and entrepreneurs.

This latest integration could revolutionize how users generate visuals, OpenAI says, offering a streamlined and user-friendly approach to digital design.

Before introducing this plugin, using Canva with ChatGPT was a somewhat complicated process, requiring users to do a lot of manual work. However, the newly launched plugin facilitates the creation of new visuals with just a few clicks, a development that could boost user engagement with the platform.

To utilize this feature, users must initiate the ChatGPT on their browser and locate the ‘Plugin Store’ in the plugin section. Here, the Canva plugin can be installed with ease.

Once installed, users can head to ChatGPT’s main window and select ‘Canva’ from the plugin section.

In the chatbot’s prompt box, users can describe the visual they wish to create, using prompts such as, “I am an AI enthusiast active on Twitter. Create a banner for my account.” This will generate a list of visuals from which users can choose their favorite option, edit it in Canva, and download it directly to use as needed.

This integration is currently exclusive to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who are charged a monthly fee of $20. This subscription grants access to the Canva plugin, and also allows users to use the updated GPT-4 large language model, which is proficient in creating long-form content and accepting images as input.

Decrypt tested the feature, and, well, the results were… less than amazing. It gave us this template for our new logo. What do you think?

Maybe we are not as good at prompt engineering as we thought?

In the fiercely competitive AI sector, OpenAI has been diligently expanding the capabilities of ChatGPT to stay ahead in the race—without publicly engaging in the training of GPT-5. This set of updates and integrations come as a response to the growing competition from other powerful models such as Claude AI, which can handle up to 100,000 tokens of context and read PDFs, and more importantly, Google’s Bard, which also gearing up to implement its own plugin system.

OpenAI’s initiative to integrate Canva with ChatGPT aligns with its broader strategy to enhance the chatbot’s capabilities, making it a versatile tool that caters to various user needs. Before expanding its plugin store, OpenAI launched a feature to browse the web with Microsoft Bing, but it had to take it out after users found out that it could be used to access paywalled content.
